Creating a Simple Women’s Club blog
Using Googleblog.blogspot

This  project is free and very easy to use for beginning “webmasters”.  On the internet, go to http://googleblog.blogspot.com/  (There are other free blog services and most are also easy to use).

Select “Create a Blog” at the top.  Follow the simple steps: first, name your blog; then pick the URL, example:  ours is http://www.darkegopwomen.blogspot.com ; follow the easy 1,2,3 steps as to layout, create a logo or download one from your computer for your club; select colors, fonts, etc.

After the blog is designed and posted to the internet, new posts and timely article removals can be made from a “Dashboard” page.  Items like polls and monitored comments can also be accepted.

I also happen to take the photos used on our blog.  I can upload photos from my computer that I have taken at our events or have been sent to me from candidate’s campaigns.  I can also run videos.  When new information is posted to the blog, I notify our club members by e-mail and include the URL for them.

Creating E-Newsletters

Every RW website needs to also have an e-newsletter in order to inform members when new items are posted and to communicate on a regular basis. The greatest website in the world may rarely be accessed until the members are e-mailed with a suggestion to visit the site. There are many e-newsletter software packages on the market now which make it very easy to create attractive e-publications.  Following are a few which we have received. Their instructions are very complete and easy to follow:

Phplist is an open source newsletter manager. phplist is free to download, install and use, and is easy to integrate with any website. Phplist is downloaded more than 10,000 times per month. Phplist is sponsored by Yincan. Used by the GA GOP.

    E-Mail Marketing
     by Constant Contact

Whether you're looking to send an email newsletter, a high-impact email promotion, an email event invitation, an online survey, or build your email list, discover how Constant Contact can help you get it done.  Used by NFRW for Capital Connection.  It does cost a minimum of $15 per month.

  Vertical Response E-Marketing
used by Freedom Works and others.

  Email Contact -
Affordable and easy to use!
Email Contact is a Web-based Do-It-Yourself Email Marketing service that includes everything you need to manage your email from start to finish. A friend of mine recommends this one highly. -- Bettye

MS Internet Explorer. This is probably the most commonly used way to send web pages as e-mail. To send a web page by e-mail, use Microsoft Internet Explorer to find the web page to be sent. Then go to FILE to SEND to PAGE BY E-MAIL. The web page is then pulled into Outlook e-mail program.

Outlook Express.  Yes, just the regular old OE where we keep our e-mail addresses. Create html e-mails or create a web page and then send that page as an e-mail using OE. You can send any web page using this procedure. Looks great and is FREE.  I have used this for my E-News for eight years after I entered the world of website building. Download Outlook Express  -- Click here to read details.
Note: Since OE is not compatible with Windows Vista or the upcoming Windows 7, click here to learn more about newer e-mail clients that work with these Windows versions.

Help for Small Clubs with limited "geek"
     resources -

For a small club with limited “geek” resources I recommend using Network Solutions Image Café online product.  High speed internet access is a must (or else you’ll pull your hair out waiting for pictures to upload) but this product is affordable, easy to work with and most of all portable.  (Currently they’re offering a starter site that includes 5 pages, 2 e-mailboxes and 1 year free domain name registration

  www.GoDaddy.com
I am in the process of building a web site for my new local club, and I’ve decided to use GoDaddy.com. The company offers domain registration, as well as several web hosting packages, one for as little as $5 a month. So far, I’ve registered my domain, but haven’t actually selected a web hosting package, so I cannot give an opinion on this yet.  However, I know of several others who have used GoDaddy, and all seem to like it.

Due to a number of RW Club problems with this company, we no longer recommend Campaign Site Builder. They do not respond to telephone calls or e-mails

Flash is an attention getter but certainly not the most important item on a website.  Content and information is much more important.

The Ohio FRW has a web site & thanks to a young Republican (Mark Vernik) we were able to get it designed & it is maintained each month at a very reasonable cost.  People often hesitate because of fear. Fear of cost, technology and uncertain about the need. All organizations today need this technology. It never costs anything to get the information about what it takes to get a website for your organization.  View the  OFRW website at www.ohfrw.com  You will also see Mark's address when you pull up the site.  I would like to add Mark Vernik's name to the list of people to contact to develop a web site for anyone's club. Mark is very easy to work with & is very creative.--Mary Anne Christie, President Ohio FRW christim@fuse.net --  2008

Popular Web Design Software

Following software which is used by many professional website builders:

Adobe Dreamweaver
Used by many professional website builders. Many people in this field consider this the best.

Build world-class websites and applications with one of the industry's leading web authoring tools. Adobe® Dreamweaver® CS4 software is ideal for web designers, web developers, and visual designers.

Microsoft Expression Web 2 and 3  This replaces the very popular MS FrontPage. This new MS software allows for the use of Flash files, Windows Media Video files, Silverlight applications and more dynamic html. It definitely moves upward toward more professional programs like Adobe® Dreamweaver®

Most hosting companies now furnish free Site Builder software which is very easy for users new to website building. Following are just a few inexpensive hosting companies which furnish this service:

Homestead  - furnishes many design templates and web tools
Go Daddy Hosting Company

Just Host.com
Fast Domain.com

Note:
Please l
et us know the names of your hosting companies and website designers if you are pleased with their services.

IMPORTANT: Please use your own members when possible for building and maintaining your sites. Ladies, we do not need to depend on using paid male professional site builders in most cases. It is not necessary to be a highly paid award winning professional to do a good job in getting our conservative message out on our websites and e-newsletters. This is not rocket science, and many of our Republican women with computer experience are qualified to do this job with just a little study and practice.
