NFRW Winning Webs 2012 - 2011 - 2010 - 2009

April 17, 2012
Winning Web of the Week
North Shore Republican Women of Lake Conroe, Texas
http://www.nsrepublicanwomen.org/

In an era where the use of templated websites has made it so easy for groups to have a presence on the vast internet, our congratulations go to North Shore Republican Women President Irene Kerr and Webmaster Ann Kate for taking their club’s website beyond the “start here” point initially available.

Of course the first thing one notices is the name and logo of the club.  These are not only colorful, they are clear and legible.  In fact, Webmaster Ann Kate has done an outstanding job in insuring that the text on all the pages is easy to read.  This is vital because many of the younger ladies view websites on their cell phones and many of the older ladies have eyesight challenges.  We certainly wish more webmasters paid attention to this aspect of website design and maintenance.

Immediately below the banner is the navigation bar.  Evidence has shown that website visitors won’t click more than a couple of times to “drill down” to find the information they are seeking.  Those that don’t find their answer rapidly, leave the website.  Certainly not the case here.  With the North Shore Republican Women, the navigation links are well thought out and easy to follow.  This website has much useful information and the well-done navigation makes it possible to find
it quickly!

Websites that are current and updated frequently are valuable to their visitors.  The NSRW deserve commendation for clearly meeting that need.  A visitor can easily find information about upcoming events.  But, the NSRW also highlights past activities with their great photo page and with various articles, such as scholarships page and the NSRW activities page, elsewhere in the website.

If I were moving to the Lake Conroe area, I would want to seek out the ladies in the NSRW because they are active in supporting Republicans and, judging by the smiles on their faces, having fun.

Congratulations to the North Shore Republican Women for this well-deserved recognition as the NFRW’s Winning Web.

NFRW Winning Web of the Week  -- Colorado Federation of Republican Women www.coloradogopwomen.org/

Congratulations to the Colorado Federation of Republican Women for developing one of the most informative and thorough websites which has come our way.   From the Message of President Perry Buck on the home page to the Contact page, these ladies have covered it all:  About CFRW – Programs – Events – 2012 Elections – Government – Political – Links – Member Center – Contact.

The following items are on every page: Upcoming Events/Registration, Find a Club, Subscribe to News Feed, and Subscribe to E-mail Updates. This
is an excellent idea since these are perhaps THE most important items. The 2012 Election page is of special interest this year with its Candidate Directory, Election Calendar, Congressional Districts maps as well as Colorado House and Senate maps. The Member Center Link with Monthly Club Reports and Forms, Handbook, By-Laws, and Colorado Club Directory are most important items for members and visitors. On the About page, it is great to see so much contact information for all officers and board members – e-mail, telephone and mobile phone numbers. On the News page the archived past issues of the Tusk Talk Newsletters going back to 2006 is very impressive!

Debra Elliott, CFRW Website Administrator, is to be congratulated on a job well done for including a wealth of information in an attractive and easy to navigate design format for the Republican Women of Colorado.   Please visit www.coloradogopwomen.org/ to view a great RW website which is a wonderful source of information for all Republican women in their state.

Our only suggestion for improvement would be to add more digital photos of members, officers and events.  Perhaps a photo gallery page would be a good addition.

  • Contact and message forms readily available including online forms, registration and Pay Pal links for
    on-line payment.

  • Site also has a page for the Ohio Republican Women Online (ORWO) -- the first operational statewide
online Republican Women’s Club in the USA

Federation President Jean Turner sums it up very nicely:  "Ohio’s website was previously very limited. I am sure
this new wonderful tool has helped bring us four new clubs in 2010 and 2011. Our clubs are so grateful for the
free publicity we provide for their events.  As President of OFRW I have heard SO many wonderful comments about our website and our webmaster, even at the NFRW Board Meeting!  We are so thankful for Lyn’s talent and many hours she
spends doing this website."

Congratulations to
President Jean Turner, Lynn Bliss and the Ohio Federation for a great professional ob on their website which has great eye appeal, is well organized and easy to navigate.  Our website assistance committee was very impressed and suggests that this site might be used as a model for other federations in setting up or re-building their websites.

NFRW Winning Web - Longmont RW - Colorado
www.LongmontRepublicanWomen.org

Wow!  What a delight to read the Longmont RW website.
My initial impression about the first thing I read was that it
had little to do with the club, but it offered insight into the thinking of the club president.  Boy, was I wrong.  Although the article was lengthy and took some time to read, it was
a great indicator of the energy of the club and their focus
on their club purpose.  I should mention that there was a
break of couple of weeks between my first visit to the Longmont RW website and the final one before writing this review.

Even after that break, Cage’s Corner (which had changed during my absence) continued to impress me.  If you have
a few moments, I encourage you to read it.  You, too, will come away inspired to continue working to promote our Republican principles.

  • Events page: As expected, the Events page includes information/links for the activities of other
groups and RW clubs.  What a wonderful resource for everyone in the area.  And even though
the Longmont RW will not meet during June, July and August, they are posting on their website
information about events being held by other Republicans.  The ladies may take a break but they
clearly are continuing to take seriously their club motto which says, in part, “Inform and Empower”.

  • Election pageAlong those lines, visitors to the Longmont RW website should check out the
Election page.  One of the LRW members worked with a fellow volunteer to put together a very
good set of materials and explained what they did for their precinct.  It includes everything from a
brochure they created, to the “sorry we missed you” note, to the article they wrote for the Homeowners
Association newsletter.  If someone is unsure of what to do or how to begin, this page is full of ideas
that can help.  And—best of all—these materials are presented on the website page in a logical order
with links to the Word or Adobe versions.  It is like having a training manual just a click away.

  • Members only section: There are a couple of aspects of the Members Only section that other
clubs in the NFRW should consider:
Because this is password protected and not available to visitors,
the club is able to make available the home mailing addresses and the email addresses
of their members.  And they have done so in a way that this information can be easily used by
club members who want to share information with fellow club members.  What a Great Idea!!

  • Club business cards with logo. GREAT idea! Many of us have, or wished we had, business
cards with our club logo on it.  The Longmont RW provide the template with their logo and instructions
to their members on exactly how to create and print these.  With just a little bit of effort, all of their members
can have business cards to distribute to prospective members or others interested in learning more about
    Republican Women.

Club President Peg Cage and Webmaster Peggy Knight deserve a nice Thank You for the work they have put into
this and for their success in creating an NFRW Winning Web of the Week.  Well done, ladies, well done!

Fayette County RW Club - Kentucky

Congratulations to the Fayette County RW Club (Kentucky)webmaster, Kathye Schattner, and to club president,  Barbara Ellerbrook, on one of the outstanding club websites in the
National Federation of Republican Women! The friendly tone,
recaps of past speakers and past activities are very well done.
Other positive “features” were links to their Facebook page in
several places and the opportunity for viewers to use PayPal to
pay dues or make lunch reservations through this convenient service.
The Links page is nicely organized, which makes it easy to find a specific group and link.  Other RW clubs and
federations could learn from the Fayette County RW on how much more useful this makes the page to visitors to the website.

If I were moving to their area and looking to join a group of Republican Women, these items clearly show that the Fayette County women are an active and vibrant club.  And if you have any doubts, just check out the huge smiles in the images on their Photos page.

The NFRW Website Assistance Committee LOVES this site! Congratulations to the Cactus Wren Republican Women of Arizona for a great job.  The first and most noticeable thing about the home page is the beautiful photograph of the Cactus Wren followed immediately by the clever CWRW logo with the words "Advocate, Inspire, Mentor." What a great first impression for a new visitor to the website.

Some of the many outstanding features:

  • Very pleasing graphics, well branded, clear who they are and who they are affiliated with
  • Calendar of events to encourage participation
  • Photos to show them in action and create interest in the visitor to join
  • Site very easy to navigate- quick and clear navigation

Sacramento RW Federated - Northern Division

California
www.sacramentorwf.org

Congratulations to the women of the Sacramento Republican Women Federated Northern Division for developing a very attractive and informative website for their club. Janet Gardner, President of the Sacramento RWF, does an excellent job of
maintaining this site -
www.sacramentorwf.org .

Visitors to their site are given vital club information on the nine major pages. These pages utilize effective drop down menus which do a great job of navigating visitors to many more specific pages. The ABOUT SRWF page allows direct e-mail to the President plus a web form for e-mail from the website and a map for directions.  The President's Message and Annual Report are very effective.  Another important feature is the ability to renew membership or join on line. Their Members Only section is another important and useful feature. The revolving photos of their flags and capitol building in the headers of each page is an attractive eye catcher.  The tools in the upper right corner of each page offer very useful features--increased text size, printing and emailing of the web page.

They use the Ohana Web Editing Tool as noted in the URL of each web page. The Website was designed
and hosted by Creative Computer Services.

The Sacramento RWF are to be commended on a very effective web presence. -- The NFRW Website Assistance Committee,  Bettye Chambers, Chairman

NFRW Winning Web
Marion County Republican Women- Mississippi

www.marioncountyrw.com

The ladies (and associates) of the
Marion County Republican Women deserve a commendation for their fine website.  It meets and exceeds our expectations for an NFRW Winning Web.

First – this website is easy to read and navigate.  All the important information, such as upcoming
activities and club meetings as well as how to reach officers via email, is just a click away from what-ever
page you happen to be on.  And so there is no confusion as to the purpose of the group, they clearly state
their objectives on the home page that visitors will see first.  Plus, on that same home page, they have
included a photo of women at the recent MFRW convention – women who appear to be smiling and proud to be members of the MCRW.

The next page I visited was the “Membership” page where I learned there are 110 in their club.  This is certainly an achievement and I was delighted to see that information placed so prominently on the page.  Way to go, Ladies!!  The “Membership” page also includes an online form for those who are interested in joining the club.  And because they make it so easy, there is every reason to believe the club’s membership numbers will continue to grow.

Each of the succeeding pages I visited (from “News” to “Schedule” to “Newsletter” to “TARS”) included enough information to grab my interest but not so much that I was overwhelmed. The Marion County RW have done an outstanding job of editing their content.

From a personal perspective, one of the features I enjoyed the most was the quotes from famous Americans.  These are spread throughout the website and can serve as an inspiration to us all.  For those who may not have the opportunity to visit the Marion County RW website, let me share the one, currently on their home page, from General Robert E. Lee:  “Do your duty in all things.  You cannot do more, you should never wish to do less.”

Congratulations to the club members and Donna Rackley, Site Administrator and Club President of
Marion County Republican Women, Marion County, Mississippi

NFRW Winning Web
Louisiana Federation of Republican Women
www.LFRW.org

Congratulation to the Louisiana Federation of Republican Women for developing one of the most professional and attractive websites which we have examined for the Winning Web of the Week  project. It utilizes all of the features needed to draw visitors and present an attractive colorful web
presence filled with useful and informative information.

The first things to catch the attention of the visitor are the revolving photos of their own elected women officials and some club members.  The information is very current and updated several times a week. Contact forms and information is readily available in numerous places. Effective use of photos and photo galleries, newsletters, links to all 42 clubs and committees, member spotlights, e-mail signup and awards are just some of the outstanding features.  Federation news and calendar are front and center on their home page. They also make effective use of Facebook and Twitter which is now so popular. This site also uses PHP scripting language for dynamic effects.

The site is maintained and updated frequently by Corresponding Secretary, June Williams, who is the webmaster. She is assisted by LFRW's Executive Administrative Assistant, Betty LeBlanc. Congratulations to Federation President, Argiro Morgan, and her federation on a first class website which is very easy to navigate.   www.LFRW.org   Click here to view the LFRW application for NFRW Winning Web.

NFRW Winning Web of the Week
Washington Federation of Republican Women
www.WFRW.org

The Washington Federation has created a most informative and attractive website with the intent to use the growing popularity of the internet to provide a central place where members and non-members can quickly and easily find timely information about the Federation and the member clubs.  It is impressive that this site is frequently updated daily or at least weekly which is MOST important.  Upon opening the home page, visitors instantly read
all about the next upcoming events and do not have to wonder through various pages to search for this information.  Information on upcoming events, bylaws, newsletter, addresses of board members, and informative articles by Committee chairs or WFRW officers are also featured.  One of the major highlights is the effective use of photos including the officers and board of directors featured at the top of all pages.  This is much more appealing than the standard template women photos seen on so many sites. There are also fun photo pages, such as the Snow Page created after the big storms last winter. Last fall the WFRW webmaster added a temporary special section featuring favorite book reviews by the Washington State Attorney General, Secretary of State and National Committeewoman to showcase the NFRW Literacy Month.

This website is one more tool to assist the Washington Federation in marketing and communication. It is definitely an asset to the Federation.  Congratulations
to Eileen Sobjack, President of WFRW. who submitted this application. Also, many thanks to their member and webmaster, Patsy Excell, for a great job.

The ladies of the Wood County Republican Women saw the need for
a presence on the internet and responded with a blog that is informative, updated frequently, and a delight to read.  They have incorporated numerous photos highlighting their activities (from participating in their state federation’s day at the legislature, to folding flags for the pocket flag project, to hosting events and forums where voters in Wood County can learn more about candidates).
Their blog is also visually appealing. This is another fine example for clubs in the NFRW who are considering how to take advantage of the opportunities of the internet without spending big bucks on webhosting. website design and maintenance.

NFRW Winning Websites

The NFRW Web Site Assistance Committee, under the leadership of Bettye Chambers of Georgia, has launched a new web site at http://www.nfrwwinningwebs.org/.  The web site assists states and clubs in developing high-tech communications tools such as web sites, blogs and e-newsletters, while also recognizing outstanding state and club web sites through the Winning Webs of the Week program. Every club and state which meets basic guidelines and fills out the application will be featured as a "Winning Web of the Week" on the NFRW web site and in this weekly e-newsletter, and also will be recognized at the NFRW biennial convention this September. For details, please visit www.nfrwwinningwebs.org.

We are proud to announce the first two Winning Webs of the Week.
